V Shankar elected
V Shankar, an educationist was unanimously elected as the President of the Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha, for a three year term. He is the youngest president of the Sabha since its inception, fifty years ago. He has taken over from Dr. V Subramaniam.
Mr Shankar is associated with a number of educational and charitable institutions like SIES, Child's Trust Hospital (Chennai) and the proposed Information Technology (IT) park of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam.
The Sabha, Mr Shankar said, is entering its Golden Jubilee year in 2002 and has planned several programmes blending Carnatic, Hindustani and Western music, an international seminar on health care and a mega youth festival.
Other managing council members elected includes Mr Jayaram Mani, Mr Sadanand Shetty, Dr. K.S.Varadachary, S.S Ranjan and S.Venkatachalam.
