
Metro rail to come to chembur , in 2011
In
the year 2011, Mumbai may or may not have become like shanghai, but if the state government’s word is to be
taken seriously, Chembur residents will get a metro system, on the lines of
Delhi Metro Service, to travel between Mankhurd and Mahim.
The
metro project has been divided into nine corridors and work has been priortised
on the basis of traffic demands, construction cost and environmental factors.
One of the nine corridors is the Mankhurd – Kurla – Mahim segment, which is
12.8 – km – long and is Likely to be taken up in the second phase between
2011 and 2016. “The
cost of the Mankhurd – Mahim corridor is expected to be Rs 1,595 crore. The
metro rail project, if implemented, will have the capacity to carry up to 28,022
passenger per hour on this segment alone,”says an MMRDA offical.
