Sevadaan Special School

Sevadaan Special School was inaugurated by Mother Theresa on 31^st May 1984. It has been a dream built on the initiative and foresight of Fr. Frank Toner CssR, as there was no such school in the vicinity. It caters to the developmentally delayed children between the ages of 4 to 18 Yrs. from different sections of society.

With the guidance of the trained staff and Educational Psychologist, a Speech Therapist and Medical Panel, the school implements a flexible curriculum tailored to individual needs and potentials. This is implemented through our unique Personalized system of education which is carried out through different areas viz. Academics, Activities of daily living, Home Management, Leisure, Recreation and Pre-Vocational. Our other activities include Art & Craft, Dramatics, Sports & Games, Yoga, Aerobics & Dance Therapy. Through participation in sports, Special Olympics at State and National Level, our children have gained a remarkable degree of self-confidence.

Emphasis is laid on training every child to deal with the normal functions of daily life and most of all to integrate him/her into the mainstream of society through interaction with regular schools and the community, through sports, dramatics & play, etc. We also take the students out on Educational Excursions once a year to different places in India, sometimes along with regular school children.

Sevadaan has started a Mid Day Meal Project for all the students from 5^th Jan 1999, The focus of which is to provide a well balanced diet to every student.

AIMS & VISIONS
Pre-Vocational Classes to train our children in gainful employment have started to help us realize our dream of a Vocational Centre with trained personnel, keeping in mind their future rehabilitation.
